Introduction

The "Associação Portuguesa de Aikidô e Disciplinas Associadas – APADA" is organizing an International Aikido seminar, to be held in Lisbon, Portugal, during Easter 2011 (between 12th and 17th April of 2011) , directed by Kevin Choate Sensei.

Choate Sensei is a student of Mitsugi Saotome Sensei. As a member of the north American Association "Aikido Schools of Ueshiba - ASU" is a senior instructor of this Association at Chicago Aikikai. Choate Sensei his 6th degree black belt of Aikikai.

      Basic Working Rules for the Seminar

      1. This seminar is open to all students, without distinction of group, association or federation, between day 15h April 2011 (evening) until day 17th April 2011 (morning).
      2. The seminar has a special programme restricted to the members of "Associação Portuguesa de Aikidô e Disciplinas Associadas - APADA", "Aikido Schools of Ueshiba - ASU", "Association Aikido Harmonie" e "Renshin-Aikido Norway", Agatsu Aikido Fi, "Turkish ASU", "Aikido Sevilla in Pt".
      3. To be registered in the seminar, all students should have an insurance policy valid in Portugal, for at least the duration of the seminar, covering Aikido practice.
      4. Those who register before 28th February 2011 will benefit from a discount on the registration fee.
      5. Seminar classes will start at the set time. Physical and mental preparation are of the responsibility of the student. Therefore, it is recommended that the students should be on the tatami at least 15 minutes before the practice set time.
      6. When Choate Sensei arrives to the tatami, all students should have finished their preparation, should be sited in seiza, correctly aligned and ready for the ceremonial.
      7. The correct way to sit over the tatami is on seiza position. The student should neither sit with outstretched legs nor with crossed arms.
      8. During the practice the students are not allowed to leave the tatami, except in the case of accident or indisposition.
      9. Whenever Choate Sensei is showing a technique, the student should stay in seiza and look attentively. After the demonstration, the student bows to its partner and starts practicing.
      10. During the class, when Choate Sensei shows a movement in your direction?, you should sit in seiza and look attentively. Bow down when Choate Sensei is over. The same procedure applies if your neighbours are being corrected by Choate Sensei.
      11. Speak as little as possible over the tatami.
      12. Each and every person is responsible for the cleanness of the dojo.
      13. The use of jewellery or of any sort of ornaments is forbidden during the practice.
      14. In the opening ceremony, it is common practice to say the greeting “Onegai Shimasu”, and at the closing ceremony, “Domo Arigatô Gozaimashita” (thank you).
      15. You should do what you can to respect the harmony of the dojo and to be open to the plenitude of the practice.
      16. Admittance to the classes is strictly reserved to registered participants or guests, carrying an admission card.
      17. It is strictly forbidden to take photos or film without the authorization of the person held responsible for the seminar
      18. The current rules of the tatami should be respect by all (etiquette, respect for your partners physical integrity, safety during the group practice (e.g. not falling in every direction indiscriminately, avoid projecting your partner when there is not enough space) sobriety and concentration in the practice.
